What Type of Couple Are You? The 7 Chakra Couples

By Stéphane · Updated on November 3, 2026 · 5 min read

Every couple leans on one link more than the others. Depending on that link, there are seven types of couple, one per chakra: the safe-haven couple (root), the playful couple (sacral), the builder couple (solar plexus), the tender couple (heart), the talkative couple (throat), the visionary couple (third eye) and the meaning-seeking couple (crown). None is better: each has its strength and its trap.

This profile does not replace a full reading of your relationship. It gives a first, simple picture of what holds you together. For the whole map, read our guide to the 7 links of a couple.

What Type of Couple Are You? The 7 Chakra Couples

How do you know what type of couple you are?

Look at what brings you closer when things go well, and what keeps you standing when things go wrong: that is your dominant link. Ask yourselves these questions, each on your own, then compare:

  • After a hard day, what does you good together: a tidy home, a fit of laughter, a project moving forward, a hug, a long conversation, a dream for the future, a shared conviction?
  • What are you proudest of as a couple?
  • What do your friends say about the two of you?

The answer that comes back most often points to one of the seven chakras. It is common for each partner to see a different link: that in itself is valuable information.

The 7 types of couple, chakra by chakra

The safe-haven couple (root chakra)

Your strength is security. You have a home, routines, accounts in order, and each of you knows the other can be counted on. The trap: mistaking stability for routine, and no longer taking risks together. One step: once a month, do something you have never done as a couple.

The playful couple (sacral chakra)

You laugh a lot, you love pleasure, celebrations, physical tenderness. People envy your lightness. The trap: avoiding heavy topics to keep the mood up, until they explode. One step: keep your lightness, and set aside one truly calm moment a week for what weighs on you.

The builder couple (solar plexus chakra)

You are an efficient team: home, careers, children, projects, everything moves forward. The trap: turning into business partners who manage a schedule, and fighting over the steering wheel. One step: each week, one evening with no decision to make at all.

The tender couple (heart chakra)

Affection flows: thoughtful gestures, gentle touch, easy forgiveness. You feel loved. The trap: avoiding any disagreement so as not to hurt, and forgetting yourself. One step: learn to say "no" gently, as in our article on how to set boundaries.

The talkative couple (throat chakra)

You can talk for hours, about everything. You settle tensions by talking them through. The trap: analyzing everything, and mistaking talking for listening. One step: from time to time, five minutes where one speaks and the other listens without answering. Our article on communication in relationships explains the method.

The visionary couple (third eye chakra)

You see far together: a life project, a journey, a house to build, a shared dream. You often understand each other without a word. The trap: living in the future and forgetting the present, or guessing what the other feels instead of asking. One step: check your intuitions out loud ("I have the feeling that... is that right?").

The meaning-seeking couple (crown chakra)

What unites you is values, a faith, a commitment, a shared way of seeing the world. The trap: forgetting the body and everyday life, and living a beautiful idea more than a real relationship. One step: one simple physical moment every day, a walk, a meal, a massage.

Have researchers also classified couples?

Yes. Psychologist John Gottman, observing couples during their arguments, described three stable couple styles: those who discuss calmly, those who argue passionately and those who avoid conflict. All three can last. What matters, in his view, is balance: about five positive interactions for every negative one during a disagreement (John Gottman, Why Marriages Succeed or Fail, 1994, summarized by the Gottman Institute).

ChakraDuo's seven profiles are our own reading, not a scientific classification. But they say the same thing as Gottman: there is no right type of couple, only couples who know their strength and keep an eye on their trap.

Can a couple change type?

Yes. The dominant link changes with the seasons of life. A playful couple can become a builder couple when a child arrives, a builder couple can become a safe haven during a period of unemployment, then visionary when a big project comes along.

That is why ChakraDuo offers a one-year follow-up: your chakras reflect a current state, not a fixed character. Change is not a problem. It becomes one when it happens without you talking about it.

What if we don't see the same type of couple?

It's common, and it's useful. If one of you sees a tender couple and the other a builder couple, you are not experiencing the relationship in the same way. Neither of you is wrong. Ask yourselves:

  1. What does my partner see that I don't?
  2. Which link do I need right now, and does my partner know?
  3. Which link have we left aside for a long time?

These three questions often open a richer conversation than any test.

In short

  • Every couple leans on a dominant link: that gives seven types of couple, one per chakra.
  • Safe haven, playful, builder, tender, talkative, visionary, meaning-seeking: each has its strength and its trap.
  • Gottman's research also shows there is no single right couple style.
  • Your couple type changes with the seasons of life.
  • Not seeing the same type is a good opportunity to talk.

Frequently asked questions

What are the different types of couples?

Through the chakras, there are seven types of couple depending on the strongest link: safe haven (root), playful (sacral), builder (solar plexus), tender (heart), talkative (throat), visionary (third eye) and meaning-seeking (crown).

What is the best type of couple?

None. Each type has a strength and a trap. A solid couple knows its dominant link and takes care of the links it neglects.

Can a couple be several types at once?

Yes. Most couples have two or three strong links. The dominant type is simply the one you lean on first.

How do you take a couple type test?

The ChakraDuo couple test measures each partner's chakras and the 7 links between you. It shows your strongest link, the most tense one, and an action plan for the couple.

What is your strongest link, and which one do you forget? Take the couple test: your 21 chakras (each of you, and your couple), the 7 links between you and three action plans.
